The heavy lifting runs on the same WebAssembly codecs that power Squoosh, executed in a background thread so the page stays responsive.
WebP and AVIF: why convert
Modern formats compress dramatically better than legacy JPEG/PNG at the same visual quality:
- WebP — typically 25–35% smaller than JPEG; supported by every current browser. A safe default for the web.
- AVIF — often 50%+ smaller again, with great quality at low bitrates. Best for hero images where size matters most.
Smaller images mean faster pages and better Core Web Vitals (LCP).
